To support that mission, Mitsubishi Power Aero supplied five FT8® MOBILEPAC® gas turbine units adding 155 MW of fast-deployable generation into ERCOT, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas. ERCOT is the independent system operator that manages the flow of electricity to about 90% of Texas, ensuring grid reliability and overseeing wholesale and retail electricity markets. ERCOT has an electricity-only market. The February 2021 Texas polar vortex showed how quickly extreme weather can place enormous strain on the electric grid. During that event, ERCOT ordered generators across Texas to reduce power to large portions of the state to avoid even wider system failure.
